Our Story
Like most people, Allan gave septic pumping little thought – until the fateful day when his own septic tank was full to capacity. “I wasn’t even sure who to call to pump it out,” Allan remembers. “And when I finally figured that out, the operator told me he could reach me in a week to ten days. To me that was a sign there was more room in the business!”
Allan formed Baird’s Septic not long after, purchasing one vacuum truck. In his second year Allan opened Go-Johns, realizing that portable restrooms would be a growing need.
A hallmark of Allan’s business philosophy is the camaraderie he shares with competitors. “Consequently, we’ve developed good working relationships with others in the business, and that’s something we all benefit from. Many times I’ve had a call from a competitor whose truck had broken down and I loaned him one of ours so he could complete a job, and vice versa. That’s just how we operate.”
From these humble beginnings and the cooperative spirit Allan brings to all that he does, Baird’s Septic Tank Pumping Limited has continued to grow. In the 35 years since it all began, Allan Baird and his coworkers in Truro, Nova Scotia, have made staying ahead of the game a priority; investing time, money and personal effort to upgrade equipment and techniques. The result is a business that has stood the test of time with an outstanding reputation for the company in the communities they serve and amongst both his customers and industry peers.
